Who this policy is from
PandaScan is published by Panda Dev Lab (developer: Abdur Rahman), India. In this policy "we" means Panda Dev Lab and "you" means the person using the app.
The short version
PandaScan keeps your scans on your phone. We have no server for your data and no analytics, and nothing you scan, edit or convert is ever sent to us.
The only thing PandaScan sends over the internet is your own backup. That happens only if you sign in with Google and turn on Google Drive backup, and the backup goes straight from your phone to your own Google Drive. Signing in is optional, and every feature works without it.
If anything here is unclear, write to support@pandalab.co.in and the developer will answer.
What PandaScan stores
On your phone, PandaScan stores:
- Your scans: the photos you take or import, their borders, filters, marks, signatures and notes.
- How they are organised: document names, folders and Doc Vault categories.
- What you add to them: watermarks, footers, page numbers and recognised text.
- Your saved signatures and your QR code history.
- Your settings, such as theme, default filter and file names.
- If you sign in with Google: your account's name, e-mail address and profile picture link, used only to show who is signed in.
- If you turn on Google Drive backup: when the last backup ran and how big it was, and small bookkeeping values that let an interrupted upload continue.
- If you set a PIN: only a salted, stretched fingerprint (hash) of it, never the PIN itself.
Where it is kept
Everything above is kept in PandaScan's private storage on your phone, which other apps cannot read.
Small preview pictures are kept in the app's cache. Results from the Image Resizer and the background remover wait there until you save or share them, and are cleared out after a day.
If you turn on Google Drive backup, a copy of your backup is also kept in your own Google Drive (see Google Drive backup below).
What we do not collect
Nothing you create in PandaScan is sent to us, and neither are your Google name or e-mail address.
PandaScan does not collect your phone number, location, contacts, advertising identifier or a device fingerprint. It sends no crash or usage reports. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell or rent data to anyone.
Permissions
- Camera: only to take the pictures you scan, while the camera screen is open.
- Photos and files: PandaScan sees only the pictures or PDFs you pick in Android's own picker.
- Storage (Android 9 and older only): to save images you choose into your Pictures folder.
- Internet and network state: only for Google Drive backup, when you have turned it on, and to wait for Wi-Fi if you chose Only on Wi-Fi.
Sign in with Google
Sign-in is optional; PandaScan works fully without it. When you tap Continue with Google, Google's own account sheet opens, run by Google Play services on your phone under Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
It gives PandaScan your name, e-mail address and profile picture link, which PandaScan keeps on the phone. The sign-in token is not stored and is not sent anywhere. You can sign out at the top of Settings at any time; this removes the account details from PandaScan and stops Drive backup.
Google Drive backup
Drive backup is optional and stays off until you turn it on, either in Settings > Backup and restore or by choosing Turn on when PandaScan offers it after you sign in.
Permission. Google asks you to let PandaScan use your Drive with the drive.file permission (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file). With it, PandaScan can see and change only the files it creates itself: a folder called "PandaScan Backups" and the backup files in it. It cannot see, read or change anything else in your Drive.
What a backup contains. Each backup is one file with your scans, folders, signatures, QR history and settings. It does not contain your App PIN, your Google account details or your Drive settings.
How it is sent. The file goes over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) directly from your phone to Google Drive and is stored in your Drive under Google's terms. It never passes through a server of ours, and we cannot open it.
When it runs. Automatic backups run daily or weekly, as you choose, and by default only on Wi-Fi. The newest three backups are kept and older ones are deleted by PandaScan.
Restoring. Restore from Drive downloads a backup you choose and adds its scans to the phone. Nothing already on the phone is replaced.
Stopping and deleting. To stop, tap Turn off Drive backup or sign out. To delete the backups, delete the "PandaScan Backups" folder in Google Drive. You can remove PandaScan's access at any time in your Google Account under Security > Third-party apps and services.
Google API Services: Limited Use
PandaScan's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
In particular:
- Data from Google sign-in and Google Drive is used only to show who is signed in and to save and restore your own backups.
- It is not transferred to anyone, and not used for advertising, profiling or training any AI model.
- No person at Panda Dev Lab can read it.
Processing on your phone
These features run entirely on the phone:
- page detection and filters
- book curve fix
- text recognition (OCR)
- QR and barcode reading
- the background remover's person finder
- every format conversion
They use models built into the app (Google ML Kit, bundled). No picture is uploaded for processing.
When something leaves your phone
A file leaves your phone only when you send it: by sharing, e-mailing or printing it, by saving it to a folder or the gallery, or through your own Google Drive backup if you turned it on. The app you share to, your e-mail app or your printer service then handles the file under its own terms.
Backup files. When you tap Save a backup file, PandaScan writes one file to the place you choose in Android's picker, such as Downloads, a pen drive or a cloud app. The file has no password. Locked scans stay locked inside PandaScan after a restore, but anyone who has the file and the right tools can read the pages in it, so keep it somewhere private.
Android's own backup. If backup is turned on for your phone, Android may include PandaScan's data in your own Google account backup, so it comes back on a new phone. This is done by Android, not by PandaScan, and you can switch it off in your phone's backup settings.
Security
Your data stays in the app's private storage. You can lock single scans with a PIN, or the whole app with App PIN; locked scans show a lock instead of their pages, stay out of search, and ask for the PIN before opening or sharing. Drive backups travel over HTTPS.
No method of storage or transfer is perfectly secure, so keep your phone locked and your Google account protected.
Deleting your data
- A scan you delete moves to Recently deleted, where it stays for 30 days so a mistake can be undone. After that, or when you empty Recently deleted, its pages are removed from the phone.
- Signing out removes your Google account details from PandaScan.
- Uninstalling PandaScan, or clearing its storage in Android settings, removes everything it stored on the phone. The exception is if you choose Keep app data when Android asks during uninstall (Android 10 and newer).
- Backup files and Drive backups are yours to delete wherever you keep them.
Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Your choices and rights
All of these are in your hands inside the app: signing in or out, turning Drive backup on or off, choosing how often it runs, and deleting scans and backups.
Depending on where you live (for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or the GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal data. Since we do not receive your data, you can exercise these rights directly on your phone and in your Google Account. For any question, write to us at the address below.
Children
PandaScan is a general-purpose tool and is not aimed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone for us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be in the app and on this page, with a new date at the top. For important changes we will also say so in the app.
