PandaScan – Document scanner

In development

Point it at a page and get back a flat white scan, not a photo of paper.

Most scanner apps hand you a photograph of a page and call it a scan. PandaScan is built around the opposite promise: what comes out is a flat white page that reads like it came off a flatbed, with the paper tint, the shadow of your own hand and the grey cast of indoor light all lifted out.

The capture flow is deliberately unfashionable. There is no live edge detection dancing around the page while you are still lining up the shot, because a border that keeps re-guessing is a border you end up fighting. PandaScan takes the photo first, finds the edges afterwards, and hands you four corners you can drag. The same pass runs on an image picked from the gallery, so a photo somebody sent you on WhatsApp straightens exactly like one you took yourself.

Beyond plain documents there are modes that know what they are looking at: an ID card captured on one side or both, a passport page, a signature lifted clean off the paper, a QR code, and count and maths modes for the jobs a camera is quietly good at. Pages can be cropped, rotated, reordered and filtered, and exported at whatever width and height the form you are filling in demands rather than whatever the camera happened to produce.
